The truth is that mobile has become the primary companion for any shopper. Many customers rarely open their laptops or computers, while their mobile phones are always in their hands. This significant shift in user behavior has made designing a mobile browsing experience more important than ever.
1- Shift in Customer Behavior:
A few years ago, the focus was on the desktop version of websites and online stores, as most people access them from there. But today, the situation has completely changed, especially in Saudi Arabia, where studies and reports show that the vast majority of purchases are now made via mobile. This means that ignoring the mobile version is equivalent to losing a huge segment of customers.
2- Mobile is Faster in Decision Making:
The advantage of mobile shopping is that it's fast. Customers find the product, click, and buy immediately. On a desktop, they may need to open multiple pages and become distracted. Therefore, a store equipped with a smooth user experience on mobile has a greater chance of converting a visitor into an actual customer.
3- Challenges facing store owners:
Designing a mobile version isn't just about "minimizing the site." There are challenges such as:
* How do you make product images appear clearly?
* How do you make the checkout process take no more than a few seconds?
* How do you make menus easy to navigate and avoid losing customers?
If you don't pay attention to these details, customers will simply get bored and leave your store.
4- Examples from the Saudi market:
Let's imagine a Saudi clothing store. If a customer opens the website on a mobile phone and finds that the images don't display well or the purchase buttons are too small, their first reaction will be to leave and move on to another competitor. However, if they find a comfortable experience, clear images, and large, clear buttons, they will complete the purchase and repeat the experience later.
5- Integration between the desktop and mobile versions:
It's true that the mobile version is a priority today, but that doesn't mean you should neglect the desktop version. In some cases—especially for expensive products or those that require extensive research—customers prefer to complete their purchases on a desktop. It's always best to strike a balance where the two versions complement each other, but with a greater focus on mobile.
6- How do you start improving your mobile version?
* Rely on a responsive design that adapts to all screen sizes.
* Focus on page loading speed, as any delay will cause the customer to leave.
* Make purchase buttons clear and large.
* Provide easy and fast payment methods such as Mada or Apple Pay.
Ultimately, if you own an e-commerce store in Saudi Arabia, you must realize that the mobile version is no longer an optional extra; it is the foundation that determines the success or failure of your store. Saudi customers have become more practical and want to buy quickly and without complications. Focus on designing the mobile experience and maintaining a strong desktop version. This way, you'll ensure you cover all your customer segments and continually increase your sales.
